My Prediction

WALT: Write a prediction for what a story might be about based on the keywords

One day Lili was sick. Ana was delivering circulars on a buggy  when she stopped for a second and pushed the brake.   Later she took off down the street.   Ana’s manager was feeling very mad because something very bad just happened. She worried because she might lose her job her manager just said “hey your fired for being late almost everyday!!!”
“NOOOO I JUST LOST MY JOB!!!”
WALT:Evaluate our prediction after reading the story (Junk Mail by Prue Hilson, Pt 3, No.3 1995)

I give my prediction a 4/10. I predicted correctly that Lili was sick and that Ana was delivering circulars on a buggy. However I did not predict correctly that Ana got yelled at by lots of people and that she ruined the pamphlets.

My Speech

Children should be able to bring electronics to school.
“Mum, can I use my device for school tomorrow. The class doesn’t have enough and I can search for information. I also prefer to work in google docs because it’s easier” If you haven’t guessed by now electronics are important at school why you ask well that’s what I’m here to tell you today.

Laptops - why? Sometimes you would need to find information to things because if you were doing a speech or something like that then you would need to find information and 3 ideas for it.It also makes learning very fun because it has all these cool and fun games on studyladder, sumdog and many more.

iPads - why? iPads are also important because if we could bring our own ipads to school then it would be good too because it has all these different apps such as pic collage, explain everything, puppet pals, popplet and a lot more but none of our school chromebooks have apps like that.

Phones - why? We should also be able to bring Phones to school because so that we will not have to snatch the school chromebooks off each other because if that happens then we will get into trouble and we might even break it that would be even worse and you probably will get banned from the school chromebooks for the rest of the year! I mean like how bad would that be.

Conclusion - Overall i think that children should be able to bring electronics to school because our own electronics are useful and sometimes the school doesn’t have enough for all of us.

A Letter from Gallipoli

A letter from Gallipoli 27 April 1918

Dear Krisha

Here in Gallipoli it is very hot and humid there are thousands of terrible enemies trying to fight and kill the soldiers. There are also a lot of noises and big guns here oh and also did I tell you that I am very worn out i tried to escape and it happened to be a narrow escape.Oh I forgot to tell you i got a shock from all of the noises that the bullets made from the guns.I dug up a trench under ground and one of the soldiers wanted to hide with me now I am not very comfortable in the space that I am in.Oh and guess what i almost got shot what happened I was digging another trench because i was not very comfortable so when I got out of the other trench then one of the enemies shot straight where i was but luckily i ducked down at the right time.

How to Hongi

The Hongi

What is a hongi?

A hongi is the pressing of noses, which symbolises the exchange of the breath of life

When does the hongi happen?

When the tangata whenua side indicates that the speeches are complete, the manuhiri speakers approach the tangata whenua to hongi

What to do.

1. Gently but firmly with your right hand shake their hand and then say “Kia Ora”, maintain eye contact as you do this.
2. Take your left hand and rest it on the other person’s right shoulder then the other person will do the same thing to you.
3. Lean forward and press noses for one second and if you are shorter than the other person they will bend down.
4. Now you can release your hands, shoulders and noses.

The hongi is a greeting that shows respect to the tangata whenua, therefore it is important you do it correctly.
